Thankful Thursday – Florida without the Mouse

Today I am thankful for my vacation.

While there are so many layers to this comment (the mountains that were moved to get us to take vacation, what it did for my body and soul) I will just give you the highlights for now.

Garreth and I went to Orlando without kids. Did you get that? Without kids. We haven’t been without them in years and I cannot tell you how fabulous and amazing and wonderful and healing and relaxing it was.

We stayed with a dear friend who transitioned me through such an important time of young adulthood years ago (yes, years ago when I was young). She’s now a mom who gets it and we were able to connect on a whole new level. Her boys are fun and talented and when they’re not your own… teenagers can be pretty great.

I mostly did this:IMG_4879

But we also made it out the the Kennedy Space center. The ten year old astronaut wanna be in me went crazy.

We sat in the command center for the Saturn V which has not been changed. We heard the actual recording of take off day for one of the Apollo missions. They spotlighted the seats of the engineers as they were speaking then the ground shook with take off . It was awesome!

The Floridians kept apologizing for the cold weather. Bunch of sissies.

We went canoeing, had professional massages, stayed up too late and slept in too long, took a walk, jumped around:

We may have gotten a little silly with an impromptu photo shoot. Any Austin Powers fans out there know what this ridiculousness was all about (because I totally didn’t)?

Eventually we really had to leave because there were gators in every corner that were trying to kill us:

  1. The joy held in these pictures fills my heart! It looks like you had a wonderful adventure during your time away. I completely understand the change it offers when we as parents can just “get away”. Reality is a little bit calmer when you get home. I hope the peace remains in your heart until your next adventure.
