Today I’m thankful for the people who reframe disability, like Marvel comics who went out of their way to design Avenger Blue Ear who wears blue hearing aides to encourage five year old Anthony Smith. How cool is that? He even gets to meet Iron Man.
Robyn of Tiny Super Heros is educating others and encouraging kids in a similar fashion. She sends out Super Hero capes to kids. Check out her blog. Aidan will be featured there soon. His cape hangs from the back of his power chair because independence and mobility are his super powers.
It’s too easy for people with disabilities to be construed as a drain, takers, dependents, needy, and ultimately less than. It’s in the power of telling our stories and being in community with each other that we can change this dialogue and ultimately see the humanity in each other.

Aiden is a Super Hero to us all.
Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
Your blog, your community, your husband, your sons–they all prove the latter to be true. Thank you for writing. Shivaun
